I wrote this pattern several years ago, and it’s been available for purchase, but I’ve decided to post it for free! It’s a simple, pretty little hat, but the best part is that the sizing is adjustable. When my kids were younger, I absolutely loved making hats for them (and I still do!), but most hats only allow for one season’s worth of wear for kids ages 1-4 before the kiddos outgrow the hats! This particular hat can be worn for years. YAY!
The pattern suggests 2 different ways of finishing the hat: 1) with a ribbon that can be switched out as the wearer outgrows the hat and 2) with a foundation chain. The ribbon option will limit the amount the hat stretches, keeping it snug on the head. The foundation chain allows for slightly more stretch, and since the foundation chain is simply tied, it can be untied and adjusted for a looser fit.

This hat was inspired by the beautiful and elegant hats from the 1920s –with a cute, whimsical twist! As a mother of small children, I am a big fan of hats that will last longer than one year, so this pattern allows for a great deal of growth and looks adorable as a slightly loose hat on a younger child, and it doesnt lose a bit of style as it gets more snug. The flower can be attached to a brooch pin, allowing for a lot of versatility in an easy-to-make hat! The hat pattern is suitable for beginners. A photo-tutorial for the flower is included.
The pattern is written for two sizes (Small and Medium), which range from age 1 adult. Small can adjust to fit ages 1-4, Medium can adjust to fit ages 4-adult.
